The only way you know he wasn't some unfortunate schmuck who dies the day of the bombing is a) where he died, and b) he managed to pop the cover seal on his soluble maps, but not on his orders. With no word coming back from the field, the asset got placed on a low priority list and eventually forgotten.
My scout, took the 'safe' way in and managed to have an unfortunate accident anyways. scrambling for traction, sending single-man directed scout missions to locate resources for later retrieval. Of course it was August 2078 and they were still just the 'US provisional Army' and the orders just happen to have a routing code 'CSENCLAVE'.
